From 1975, growth of our hygiene and health business continued with a number of acquisitions and multiple joint ventures established. In the decades since 1975, we have consolidated and focused our hygiene and health business around wood fiber products, and have led pioneering product development in all our hygiene and health product areas.
In 2017, Essity acquired BSN medical, a leading medical solutions company that develops products within wound care, compression therapy and orthopedics. This move into the medical arena, combined with our continuing dedication to hygiene, will create additional value for millions of people around the world.

The name Essity stems from the words “essentials” and “necessities”. Hygiene and health are the essence of well-being. Better hygiene and health are necessities for better lives and our products and solutions play an essential role in improving well-being. This is what we do in Essity. And that is why we are called Essity.
