Essity cyclists put their endurance to the test with a five-day, 800-kilometer bike ride—to raise funds and awareness for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
The ride began on Friday, September 11th, at Essity’s Oakville, Ontario, office, and ended five days later, on Tuesday, September 15th, crossing the finish line at our factory in Drummondville, Quebec. Essity Rides cyclists covered about 160 kilometers per day and traveled through the regions of Toronto, Whitby, Cobourg, Trenton, Belleville, Kingston, Brockville, Cornwall and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.
On the first day of the ride, eight additional cyclists joined the five-day riders for the last 100 kilometers of their journey. Although these individuals didn’t ride for five days straight, their dedication carries the same spirit.
For over 25 years, the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation has been committed to defending the interests and well-being of people affected by breast cancer as well as their loved ones. They are dedicated to financing research and innovation while helping to save lives and improve the quality of life for people living with breast cancer. Each cyclist raised $2,000 and Essity promised to match donations up to $10,000, reaching their goal of $30,000 for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation with over $200,000 donated over the past five years already.
“Riding for Essity gives us the chance to represent values we live every day,” said Alexander Molander, Essity Rides captain, and Performance Marketing & Data Insights Director NA, Commercial Region North America. “The company’s commitment to healthier lives extends from its employees to people living with cancer and millions of others who rely on Essity products around the world. That makes wearing the Essity jersey especially meaningful.”
Essity makes therapeutic products for various medical issues, including products designed for breast cancer survivors in need of compression solutions for edema, which is swelling that can be caused by cancer and cancer treatments. These events will raise funds for breast cancer research while bringing awareness to Essity’s global vision of life-changing innovation for improved health.
Thiago Icassati, VP Commercial Region North America PC - BU Personal Care added, “Breaking down barriers to well-being for everyone is part of who we are. Essity Rides is a great example of raising awareness for an important cause like breast cancer while also promoting a healthy lifestyle, and a reflection that as one Essity we can make a real impact on the communities we serve.”
