Essity has been recognized for its leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its prestigious ‘A List’ for tackling deforestation. CDP is a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts.
We are one of a very small number of high-performing companies out of 5,800+ that were scored. Through significant demonstrable action to tackle deforestation in its supply chain and source more sustainable commodities, we lead on corporate environmental ambition, action and transparency worldwide.
We are also taking a leading role in management of carbon and climate change risk, which is reflected in an A-score by CDP.
CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognized as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. In 2020, over 515 investors with over US$106 trillion in assets and 150+ major purchasers with US$4 trillion in procurement spend requested companies to disclose data on environmental impacts, risks and opportunities through CDP’s platform.
“We are continuously working to improve and develop our business in a sustainable way, and it is very gratifying that this work is recognized. As one of a very small number of companies in the world to receive the highest score in this important area, we are aware that the efforts are ongoing and we will continue to work together with both suppliers and customers to reduce our common environmental impact,” says Magnus Groth, CEO and President of Essity.
Tracey Driessen, Essity Professional Hygiene Environmental and Risk Manager – Tissue North America notes, “I'm very proud to work for Essity, where we have high environmental standards and are committed to decreasing the environmental footprint of our product line. The vast majority of our Tork tissue products are produced from 100% recycled fiber, and when required to use fresh wood pulp, our customers can rest assured that the virgin fiber sourced is FSC certified.
”Further to ensuring a sustainable fiber supply, we are also committed to reducing our carbon footprint throughout the production and distribution system. This includes efforts under way at seven Professional Hygiene Tissue North America facilities, for significant waste and energy reductions that support our Science-Based Target commitments. According to Driessen, “It is a privilege to be part of this challenging and rewarding process, as we will contribute to leaving behind a better world while providing our customers essential tissue products.”
According to Robert Harvey, Midwest Regional Site Manager of Essity Professional Hygiene Tissue North America, “I am proud to work for a global company that is recognized for its extraordinary efforts to build a supply chain that is focused on sustainability and conservation of natural resources. It is a unique privilege to work with Essity team members at all levels that share this passion and commitment to a sustainable future.”
