About the job
Tomorrow’s infrastructure for connected care at home
Society stands before a challenge with an ageing population; in the future more and more care needs to happen at home. At Essity we have IoT solutions that address this challenge. Are you a student eager to apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges? We believe that innovation thrives on new ideas, and your master thesis project could be the spark that drives our next breakthrough.
Your role
You will challenge and question our existing connectivity strategy for our different IoT solutions. “We need to be relevant in ten years from now”, your task will be to find and suggest a possible way to get there.
Background
A general direction among regions and municipalities is that healthcare and social care should increasingly take place in the home. An important prerequisite for this development is the introduction of new forms of care through self-monitoring and remote monitoring. This includes, for example, digital services that involve apps and/or hardware that help individuals with chronic illnesses better manage their condition. It can also involve sensors that enable healthcare providers to monitor patients remotely, or treatment support that guides a patient between treatments. In addition, there are various types of so-called welfare technology, which include, for example, digital locks, GPS alarms, and monitoring systems such as surveillance cameras and communication tools that municipalities use in users' homes.
At Essity we strive to be in the forefront of incontinence care, and we also want to move into new areas that fit our strategy; therefore, it is very important that we constantly learn about trends and the direction of this industry as well as the IoT industry in general. We need to be agile and adapt to the future with speed as there is constant change.

You need to find and reach out to different organizations in the IoT field, it could be companies in other industries with similar challenges, companies that deliver IoT services or hardware, academia and research institutes and ask them about how they see the future of IoT in ten years from now.
You need to understand the Essity strategy, where we aim to go by interviewing internal stakeholders.
Do trend analysis with focus on Essity's use-cases, technical evaluations of different IoT technologies applicable for our various use-cases.
