Safety Lead
(Internally known as Safety Manager)
Join us as Safety Manager, where you will play a crucial role in fostering a proactive safety culture and ensuring the well-being of our employees at our Springvale site.
About the Role:
As our Safety Manager, you’ll play a key role in driving compliance, reducing risk, and strengthening employee engagement through the delivery of our Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Strategy and Management System.
This is a hands-on role that requires experience working within a manufacturing environment - you’ll need to be confident operating in fast-paced, practical settings where safety is critical. With a strong understanding of safety legislation and a passion for making a real impact, you’ll help drive a culture of safety through proactive risk management, coaching, and practical, on-the-ground initiatives.
You’ll be joining a collaborative, close-knit team that supports one another and knows how to have fun - casual Fridays, open communication, and a shared commitment to doing meaningful work are all part of the culture. We’ll give you the freedom to shape the role and make it your own, supported by a team focused on creating safer workplaces every day.
What You Will Do:
Deliver the Annual OHS Plan in line with Essity’s Health & Safety Strategy
Lead initiatives to reduce critical safety risks
Support risk assessments and incident investigations with practical, long-term solutions
Manage internal audits to meet OHSMS, regulatory, and ISO 45001 standards
Drive the I Care Leadership Program to embed a strong safety culture
Coach and influence others to make safety a shared priority
Report on safety data and KPIs, providing insights for improvement
Use data to reduce injuries, ensure compliance, and lift safety standards
Maintain and improve OHS procedures to meet legal and best practice standards
Benchmark safety practices against industry standards to drive excellence
Who You Are:
You bring at least five years of experience in manufacturing, with a strong focus on OHS management. A thorough understanding of Victorian OHS legislation, WorkSafe expectations, and regulatory compliance frameworks is essential. Here’s what you’ll bring:
Practical experience managing OHS systems and safety protocols, ideally in manufacturing or logistics settings
Expertise in internal audits and maintaining ISO 45001 certification
Strong Excel skills to analyze safety data and generate actionable insights
Proven ability to lead, coach, and inspire teams to prioritize safety and take ownership
Sharp analytical thinking to identify trends, anticipate risks, and drive preventive measures
Clear and confident communication skills to engage stakeholders in safety initiatives
A Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent hands-on experience in OHS roles
Holding an OHS Auditor Certification would be a plus, helping you assess safety systems and ensure compliance. A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment would also be valuable for delivering effective training and building team capability.
